£1.3 million for Glenrothes Area’s roads programme

Members of the Glenrothes Area Committee have agreed to invest over £1.3m to improve the area’s roads, footpaths and street lighting, and road safety over the next financial year.£940,000 will be spent on maintaining roads across the area, with just over £288,000 allocated to footways, £485,000 for street lighting, and £124,000 for road safety and traffic management.

Projects include:

• £441,082 to resurface the A911 from the roundabout at Sappi Road junction heading east to the B9130 junction and from the roundabout heading west for 530m.

• £301,851 to resurface Newark Road South, Newark Place Woodside Way mini roundabout and Blackwood road junction.

• Over £25,000 to resurface the footpath from 36 High Street to the Coop, Markinch.

• £75,000 to replace the slabbed footpaths at Minto Crescent underpass and £86,000to replace the remainder of the slabbed footpaths in Woodside.

• £310,000 for new lighting and footpaths in the Newcastle area.

• £40,000 on a new Puffin crossing at Pitcairn Avenue in Glenrothes.

Councillor John Beare, Convener of the Glenrothes Area Committee, said:

“Roads and pavements are something we’re contacted about a lot as local councillors. Despite ever challenging budgets we’re committed to investing in the Glenrothes area’s roads, paths and lighting. it’s important that we carry out these planned works so that we ensure they’re in good condition for years to come.”
