Work to repair a sinkhole which has been causing issues on a busy road in Somerset for more than four years is set to start next week. Issues began on Station Road in Castle Cary in 2021, and residents said the sinkhole had since become a “running joke” among the community, says the BBC.

Castle Cary Town Council has said investigation work is due to start on Monday and the B3152 Station Road will be closed between 8:00 GMT and 17:00 on weekdays until temporary traffic lights are reinstated when repairs begin in March.

The repair work is expected to take two months, which Somerset Council said would allow other nearby roadworks to be carried out at the same time.

The council said it “cannot say for certain” how long the repair will take as it needs to review the results of the investigative work and arrange for drainage consents.
