Telford & Wrekin Council’s highways teams will begin a major programme of annual maintenance work on the Borough’s dual carriageway network from Sunday 5 July, with work continuing until 24 July.

The three-week programme runs across the A442, A464, A5, A5223, A4169, B4373 and B5072 and covers a wide range of essential maintenance tasks led by the Council’s highways contractor, Balfour Beatty, in partnership with Idverde, the Council’s grounds maintenance and street cleansing contractor, and Prysmian, its street lighting contractor. 

The works include gully emptying, road sweeping, grass cutting, hedge cutting, streetlight testing and replacement, minor carriageway repairs, litter picking, vehicle barrier repairs, tree felling and a series of highway asset surveys. 

The majority of closures will take place overnight, typically running from 7pm to 7am, to minimise disruption to residents and businesses during the day. Full road closures will be in place for some sections, with signed diversion routes provided throughout. 

Councillor Richard Overton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Safer Streets and Better Housing said:

“I’d like to reassure residents that we would not be implementing road works and full road closures unless it was absolutely necessary. 

“We continue to protect, care and invest in our highways and residents will see improvements, but we know that the real measure of our performance comes from our residents. Their views matter most, and we listen closely to their experiences on our roads.”
