A1 overnight resurfacing work starts tonight in Scotland

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, will be carrying out essential surfacing improvements on three sections of the A1, with works set to get underway this evening.

The project is scheduled to take place until Wednesday 1 May, between the hours of 19:30 and 06:00. No work will take place on a Saturday or Sunday.

Works are planned at the following locations:

A1 Gladsmuir Southbound On-slip and Gladsmuir Southbound Mainline – Works will take place between Monday 8 to Monday 22 April. The A1 will be closed Southbound, and a signed diversion will be in place via Bankton junction. It will follow the A198, B1377, A6137 and A199, rejoining at Abbotsview junction southbound on-slip. This diversion will add 9 minutes and 2.2 miles onto effected journeys.

Local traffic utilising Coal Road at Gladsmuir Junction will be diverted via the A199 and rejoin the A1 at Oaktree NB On-slip. This diversion will add 3 minutes and 0.5 miles onto affected journeys.

A1 Bankton to Macmerry – Works will take place from Tuesday 23 April to Wednesday 1 May. The A1 will be closed Southbound, and a signed diversion will be in place via Bankton junction. It will follow the A198, B1377, A6137 and A199, rejoining at Abbotsview junction southbound on-slip. This diversion will add 9 minutes and 2.2 miles onto effected journeys.

Emergency services will be given access throughout the works at all times. Local access for residents will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the works.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.
