2025 marks the 50th anniversary of Bus Users UK, the charity committed to improving access to transport.
Set up in 1975 by Dr Caroline Cahm MBE, the organisation was formalised in the 1980s during bus deregulation and known as the National Federation of Bus Users. Its complaints handling service was officially launched in 1985 with the backing of the Confederation of Passenger Transport.
The organisation says it has now become a powerhouse of passenger advocacy. As the only approved ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) body for bus and coach passengers and a registered charity in England and Scotland, Bus Users UK is on a mission to connect communities through reliable, inclusive, accessible transport.
Each year, the organisation handles complaints from thousands of passengers across the UK, collaborates with service providers to raise standards, and drives improvements and access to travel. Through its events, campaigning and advocacy work, Bus Users UK bridges the gap between communities and decision-makers, ensuring the voices of passengers are heard locally and nationally.
