Caerphilly Council’s Cabinet will be asked to approve an application for a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) to allow essential works for a £20m repair of the A469 near Pontlottyn when they meet on Wednesday 18 March.
The report has been billed as a “necessary next step in repairing this long-standing highway issue” by Council leader Jamie Pritchard.
The report makes reference to every effort being made to reach agreement with interested parties for the acquisition of the land required, but that a CPO option should be run in tandem to reach a quick turnaround. Cllr Jamie Pritchard said the local authority was committed to repairing the A469 after a December 2025 Cabinet report made the funding available.
Cllr Pritchard said
“Since becoming Leader in November 2025, my first commitment was to pursue every available option to sorting out this road once and for all. It is crucial for residents living in the Upper Rhymney Valley that this road be re-built, and that all obstacles are overcome. The land negotiations and CPO are next on the list. I’ll be continuing to engage with Welsh Government throughout the pre – build and build phase”.
