Plans have been submitted to build England’s first cycle street in Cambridge. The Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) has submitted a planning application to build the Comberton Greenway, says Cambridgeshire Live.

The application marks a major step forward for the Cambridgeshire greenway, according to the GCP’s project manager Jonathan Camp:

“Reaching this milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the support of local landowners and farmers, and we’re grateful for their collaboration.

“The final design reflects what the community wanted. For example, the choice of surfacing materials was carefully selected to ensure areas retain their rural feel, and the design includes specific crossing points for tractors, as requested.

“We’ve started early work on some parts of the Greenway already, including Adams Road – England’s first Cycle Street. Once the greenway is complete, it will stretch from Comberton all the way into central Cambridge.”

The Comberton Greenway will start in Comberton, head north on Long Road, and continue towards Coton. It will then go over the M11 bridge and carry on through the Cambridge University West Campus. The route continues along Adams Road, Grange Road, and Sidgwick Avenue before reaching Silver Street.
