Campaign helps drivers to have a safe TRIP this summer

National Highways has launched the next phase of a long-term road safety campaign that demonstrates to drivers how to prepare for long journeys.

The TRIP campaign aims to encourage drivers to plan their journey in advance, including all necessary vehicle checks, as well as factoring in rest stops before they set off on any long or significant journey during autumn and winter seasons.

The TRIP checklist is based on four key principles:

  • Top–up – fuel, oil and screen wash
  • Rest – take a rest break every two hours
  • Inspect – check tyre pressure and tread
  • Prepare – have a plan for all weather conditions

The summer focus is now live on Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

A stakeholder toolkit is available, with a range of assets that can be used on social media channels, websites, blogs or newsletters.

This includes links to download both static and animated assets, as well as key captions. There are also one-minute video assets that show how to conduct essential vehicle checks.

National Highways says: “With safety our number one priority at National Highways, we aim to at least halve the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads by the end of 2025, with a longer-term goal of achieving a zero-harm network.

“To support this vision and help road users to stay – and feel – safe on our road network, National Highways has developed a long-term road safety campaign that demonstrates to drivers how to prepare for long journeys during holiday seasons.”
