The UK is facing more frequent and intense extreme weather and without greater preparedness this will have consequences for our roads and the communities they serve. This is a challenge shared across the highways sector, and one which the UK Roads Leadership Group (UKRLG) is taking very seriously.
To that end a new review looking at sector readiness for extreme weather, conducted on behalf of the UKRLG by Dr Hugh Deeming, has just been published. The report, Emergency Preparedness, Response, & Recovery, draws on learnings from real events already being experienced in the UK and abroad and makes recommendations across the sector for areas of focus for improving resilience.
The report, with direct relevance for all Directors of Highways, Transportation, and their Heads of Service, is available here.
