Fife: Storm Éowyn clean-up continues

Storm Eowyn has caused real challenges for Fifers over the weekend and the clean up is continuing. With a number of roads still closed across the Kingdom and many trees to clear, the advice is still to take care if you’re out and about.

“Our teams are clearing roads and making areas safe. And with some homes still without power, we are continuing to make sure our most vulnerable residents are safe. Please check in on neighbours if you can. We have seen people coming together this weekend to help each other which is great to see. Fife’s community spirit is something to celebrate.”

Fife Council Leader Cllr David Ross thanked communities and council teams who came together over the past few days to support those affected by the severe weather.

He said: “Thankfully these weather events are rare but the impact of this recent storm has been significant and our thoughts are with everyone who has been adversely affected.

“I want to thank everyone who went above and beyond over the weekend to help support those who were affected by Storm Eowyn and our teams who have been working flat out to keep people safe.

“This was a huge team effort to make sure we were providing support to those who needed it most. We opened warm spaces in those areas that suffered power losses and offered food and hot drinks to help people without power. Our teams were out in the most atrocious conditions checking in on the most vulnerable in our communities.”

Chief Executive Ken Gourlay added: “We’re working hard to get things back to normal but there are still roads to clear and buildings to repair which may take some time. Our bin collection service is playing catch up too, so please bear with us while we get services back on track.

“Our Contact Centre is taking lots of calls about emergency repairs. Please don’t call us back if you’ve already reported an issue as we’re taking action as quickly as we can.”
