Glasgow has been recognised by the Scottish Transport Awards 2025, with three of the city’s sustainable transport projects shortlisted for accolades across several categories.
The first phase of the Connecting Battlefield project has been shortlisted in the ‘Excellence in Walking, Public Realm and Cycling’ category.
The popular active travel route has significantly improved public spaces and created a new, segregated cycle way on Langside Road which extends onto Grange Road.
The new route provides easy access to key destinations for walkers, wheelers, and cyclists such as Queens Park and the New Victoria Hospital. The cycle way also links to the South City Way at Victoria Road – offering people who cycle a direct, speedy path into the city centre.
Glasgow have also been shortlisted for ‘Transport Team/Partnership of the Year’ for successfully delivering a major project at Charing Cross which required extensive collaborative working with transport partners.
Over the course of several months, Transport Scotland’s contractor Amey Highways renewed the waterproofing of the M8 underpass at Junction 18 and upgraded the surrounding parapets, while the council redesigned the road layout above as part of the Connecting Woodside active travel project (pictured). This dynamic transformation of public space has made the junction at Charing Cross more user-friendly and safer for pedestrians and cyclists, while seamlessly linking the Sauchiehall Street cycle lane with St George’s Road.
Finally, delivery partner Cyclehoop has also made the shortlist in three categories including ‘Most Innovative Transport Project of the Year’ for the short-stay cycle shelter initiative – a highly practical initiative to support the viability and growth of cycling across the city.
Supported by the Scottish Government, Transport Scotland, Network Rail and CPT – the Scottish Transport Awards will take place in Glasgow on 19 June 2025.
