Green Wave: Slovak Radio commemorates 15th anniversary of traffic news service

Sunday 1 September 2024 marked the 15th anniversary of the relaunch of Green Wave, the traffic news programme familiar to many drivers from Slovak Radio broadcasts.

Green Wave is an original and professional traffic news service that is produced in-house. The team led by Luboš Kasala cooperates with professionals in the field of transport and road traffic and provides the public with up-to-date, verified traffic information that helps drivers to travel safely and smoothly.

Green Wave began broadcasting in 1974 on Czechoslovak Radio and on 29 September will mark 50 years since its inception. During this time it has become an integral part of the information service on the roads. After resuming broadcasting on 1 September 2009, Zelená vlna established itself as the most trusted traffic news service in Slovakia. Green Wave editors process more than 10 thousand different traffic reports and information from phone calls and emails every month.

“Green wave is not just an ordinary traffic service, but original traffic news that we produce at our own traffic dispatching in cooperation with professionals, and therefore it is not news that has been taken over. We are also helped by regular drivers or voluntarily registered reporters from the Green Angels Club,” said uboš Kasala, head of the Slovak Radio Motoring Department. “Even after 15 years, the slogan ‘Safe and smooth’ is still relevant and expresses our efforts to provide useful traffic information that helps drivers navigate difficult traffic situations.”
