Hyundai ‘exploring connected car tech partnership’ with Google

Hyundai Motor Group is exploring a partnership with tech giant Google to enhance its connected car technologies. The collaboration aims at advancing Hyundai’s future mobility solutions, including autonomous driving, unmanned aerial vehicles, and connected cars.

According to KED Global, Hyundai Autoever, the group’s navigation system provider, is seeking to utilise Google’s data resources to improve its high-definition maps for Level 3 self-driving cars, the sources said. Hyundai Autoever, which supplies navigation systems to Hyundai Motor and Kia, currently relies on data from HERE Technologies and TomTom.

A potential partnership with Google could provide Hyundai with access to extensive data from Google Maps, potentially creating significant advancements in navigation map technology.

This initiative is part of Hyundai’s strategy to collaborate with global tech giants for effective big data management in developing future mobility technologies.

In November 2023, Hyundai Motor announced a cooperation agreement with Amazon, integrating Alexa into its US car infotainment systems from 2025. Drivers will be able to use voice commands for updates and controls.

In April, Hyundai also signed a memorandum with China’s Baidu to develop a comprehensive mobility ecosystem in China, focusing on connectivity, smart transportation, and cloud computing.

Accurate navigation is crucial for autonomous driving quality, and Hyundai is focused on enhancing its systems.
