Innovate UK Funding Opportunity: Increasing EV Charging Capacity on England’s Strategic Road Network

Innovate UK are currently running an open competition offering up to £10 million in grant funding from OZEV for UK-registered organisations.

The initiative aims to support the development and demonstration of innovative solutions that increase public EV charging provision for longer journeys on the Strategic Road Network (SRN) in England.

The SRN – covering motorways and major A-roads – has seen significant growth in charging infrastructure. But as EV adoption accelerates, we need visible, reliable, and accessible ultra-rapid charging facilities to keep pace. Some locations still face grid and operational constraints, creating cold spots where drivers can’t access six ultra-rapid charge points within 20 miles.

This competition seeks whole-system solutions that combine energy management, storage, and generation with EV charging facilities to overcome these challenges.

Jesse Pendergast, Knowledge Transfer Manager for Transport Infrastructure, will be hosting drop-in sessions from 19-29 January 2026. These optional sessions are designed to help you navigate the B2Match marketplace and build your proposal teams for the competition. Jesse will be available to answer your questions, discuss the competition, share tips on maximising B2Match, and offer advice on forming strong proposal teams.
