Journeo wins £1.6m Cornwall transport network upgrade contract

Journeo, the intelligent transport systems critical national infrastructure provider, has announced it has received £1.6m in purchase orders for hardware, software and support services to provide real time information systems throughout Cornwall. In total, five purchase orders have been received from Cornwall’s highway subcontractor, Enerveo Limited for Journeo to upgrade the region’s existing real time information systems, bringing it in line with the latest technology and open industry standards.

Journeo will remove 267 proprietary legacy displays and replace them with their latest high-performance open standard-compliant solutions and provide a further 177 new displays, all of which will be connected to Journeo’s powerful transport platform, the Journeo Portal.

The new displays include High-definition TFT technology and the latest ultra-low power solar E-ink flags to support the mix of urban regions, key transport corridors and more rural locations within the county.

In addition to the standard features of the Journeo Portal, Cornwall has also selected 250 locations to provide customers with near-carbon free real time information utilising Journeo’s latest Digital Code Management System. The QR codes, located at strategic stops throughout the county, will enable passengers to access the latest scheduled and real time departure information, journey-critical disruption information and useful links to operator information direct to their mobile device. Data collected from use of the system will support the authority in selecting locations for future expansion of the display estate.

Work has already commenced, and it is anticipated that approximately £1m will be delivered in this financial year. The purchase orders provide Journeo Portal licencing and support services for the new and legacy displays technology through to April 2030.

Russ Singleton, Chief Executive, commented

“We are delighted to be supporting Cornwall Council with their content management system requirements, delivered through our powerful cloud-based software, and by unlocking their existing display estate from proprietary technology through our use of the latest open industry standards.  This is enabling them to further invest in their information estate and deliver our latest ultra-low power displays to rural regions, extending real time departure information to more people and communities throughout the county, encouraging modal shift and the use of public transport.”
