Sampo Hietanen, the CEO and founder of MaaS Global and creator of the Mobility-as-a-Service app Whim, has taken to social media to explain the company’s current situation. Posting on LinkedIn, Hietanen said:
“We all know that startup life is a rollercoaster ride and as for many, the recent months have been quite tough for MaaS Global. While people were finally returning to regular travel behavior and we were seeing strong growth in our Whim app usage, the funding environment and investor expectations for startups like us shifted significantly.
Building something completely new involves risks and these latest market developments have forced us to plan a new route to be able to deliver on our mission. Unfortunately that means that some of our talented colleagues are now looking for new opportunities. Every single one of them has played an important part in our company.
If you are on the hunt for motivated, amazing talent that has helped build the most-advanced MaaS platform on the market, please leave your contact details and relevant info and we will help to connect you to a group that has proven their skills and resilience in creating something unique. You can also just message me directly.
Our goal has not changed: We want to bring Mobility-as-a-Service to people, and we believe that MaaS can help create more livable cities and a better planet. But success will take finding new like-minded partners to join forces with, so with that in mind, we’re reorganizing MaaS Global and evaluating all of our country operations.
Thankfully we have new partners to take the first steps on our new route together.”
