New bus SaverCards launched in Hertfordshire

Two new bus SaverCards have been launched through Hertfordshire County Council’s Intalink partnership, opening up discounts on bus fares.

This is being funded from the Bus Service Improvement Plan and the Department for Transport.

The new Senior SaverCard will enable those over 60 years old to obtain significant discounts on multi operator tickets..

The 19-25 year old SaverCard will also be continuing as part of the Bus Service Improvement Plan after being successfully launched in 2021 to support young people.

With no time restriction on the use of the SaverCard, bus users of all ages across the county now have access to a card that delivers them savings from day one.

Each SaverCard costs £20 for online applications (£25 for a paper application) and is valid for 12 months, with fare discounts available on any local bus service operating in Hertfordshire, except for services run by Transport for London or Grant Palmer Ltd.

“The introduction of new SaverCards for those not currently eligible now means that even greater numbers of residents can access cheaper bus travel across the county. We know that many are struggling with their finances due to increased costs of living, so this new initiative is a practical way in which we can help bring down some of the costs our residents bear on a daily basis. With discounted travel available and new routes being introduced later in the year, there is no better time to apply for your card and start saving,” said Councillor Phil Bibby, Executive Member for Highways & Transport, Hertfordshire County Council

The two new cards have been funded using grants from the Department of Transport to deliver simple, cheaper fares for all as part of Hertfordshire’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).

Roads Minister, Richard Holden, added: “People up and down the country deserve a modern, reliable, and affordable public transport system. That is why we have provided Hertfordshire County Council with over £31 million to boost its bus services. Supporting the Council with introducing the Senior Savercard and the 19-25 Savercard is fantastic for local residents, who will now be able to get to work, school and visit loved ones for less.”
