Road Safety GB has announced James Gibson as its new executive director, replacing Alan Kennedy who will retire from the role in March after a long and successful time in the post.
Mr Gibson has worked in the road safety profession for more than 20 years, in both local government and the police.
He joins Road Safety GB from Leicestershire County Council where he most recently held a management role overseeing road safety, sustainable travel, public rights of way and passenger transport information and provision.
Mr Gibson is no stranger to Road Safety GB, having previously been director of communications between 2009 and 2015. As a national spokesperson he has undertaken many media interviews on a wide range of road safety topics.
Speaking about his appointment, he said: “I am really excited to begin this role within Road Safety GB and I’m looking forward to building on all the fantastic work that Alan Kennedy and the other directors both past and present have put in place over many years.
“Road Safety GB is in a strong position and plays such a vital role within the road safety profession, providing training, acting as a trusted communicator through the website, the knowledge centre and the email cascade system, as well as helping to raise awareness of key issues through the newsfeed, social media channels and at our events and conferences.”
There is currently a handover period and there will be a further news item when Alan Kennedy officially retires in March.
