Essential highway repair works are being carried out on Corporation Street next week. Staffordshire County Council highways crews will be out fixing potholes along both roads, and dealing with drainage issues.
The works will be carried out between 8am and 4pm each day. A road closure will be in place during these times, but access to homes and businesses will be maintained.
The essential and urgent safety repairs are being carried out in response to many reports from Stafford residents. Works had already been delayed from March due to the impact of works happening elsewhere in the town.
Crews will be working hard to repair as many defects as possible, and are scheduled to finish by August 8.
Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways said:
“This scheme has been in our programme for some time, based on the condition of the road and the many comments of residents through our defect reporting system.
“The works to Corporation street are essential safety repairs and have been in our programme for some time, based on the condition of the road and the number of reports from residents of defects in that area. We’re restricting work to 8am to 4pm each day, and added to this, these works are being carried out during the school summer holidays when traffic is lighter.”
The county council has recently launched plans to tackle network disruption, by imposing stricter rules on utility companies who need access to the network, and not adding new works to heavily disrupted networks for the next three months, unless it can be shown that the works won’t further impact these routes.
Peter continued:
“We know roadworks cause frustration for residents, and this will be a balancing act between carrying out much-needed works, but also ensuring we aren’t causing more disruption unless it is absolutely essential. For the next three months, we won’t be doing any new non-essential work, and instead taking a long-term view on how we plan our roadworks going forwards. That doesn’t mean we will be stopping doing any roadworks for the next three months; more that we will scrutinise the ones that are programmed in to ensure they don’t cause further disruption.”
