Roadworks pause helps football supporters get home

Resurfacing roadworks on the A14 in Suffolk were paused to help football supporters get home after Ipswich Town’s Championship match against Hull City this week.

To ensure their journeys to and from Portman Road were straightforward, National Highways lifted its overnight road closure between Newmarket and Stowmarket.

The resurfacing project on the westbound carriageway resumed yesterday and, apart from this evening, will see the road closed between 20:00 and 06:00 until 16 March.

The resurfacing on the A14 is part of a larger project being carried out between junctions 47 for Woolpit and the Copdock Interchange at junction 55.

“We understand and recognise how disruptive closures on this section of the A14 are to local residents,” a National Highways spokesperson said.

“However, repairs are needed to extend the life of the carriageway, minimising the need for more extensive repairs in the future. We’re making good progress.”

“We plan roadworks carefully with local partners as far in advance as we can, while also remaining agile around major events,” a National Highways spokesperson said. We have put measures in place to try and minimise disruption while carrying out these essential works and we thank drivers for their patience and understanding.”
