Stagecoach East and Cambridge Water are set to work together to ensure that one of the most important routes into and out of Cambridge can still be served by buses, despite being closed to all motor vehicles because of essential roadworks.
Between Thursday 2nd January and Monday 6th January, essential roadworks will mean a full closure for Mill Road. As a result, the popular Citi 2 bus service will not be able to follow its usual route.
However, a shuttle service run by an operator partner on behalf of Stagecoach East, with funding from the utility company, will run either side of the bridge to connect with the diverted Citi 2 service at Emmanuel Street and Coldham’s Lane Sainsbury’s.
David Boden, Business Development Director of Stagecoach East, said: “The Citi 2 bus service down Mill Road is an essential artery that brings people in and out of the city to go to work, go shopping, and meet friends, so we are really pleased to be working together to provide a shuttle bus service. “Everyone working together in this way keeps communities connected and makes sure that Cambridge has the modern and comprehensive public transport infrastructure that a city of its stature and global significance deserves. We look forward to much more of this partnership working in the future.”
