Swindon: Funding for pothole repair doubles

A major increase in funding will see funding available for reparing potholes in Swindon double. According to the Swindon Advertiser, Transport Secretary and Swindon South MP Heidi Alexander has launched her Great Pothole Investment Survey, which will gather public feedback to help Swindon Borough Council prioritise road repairs under a new funding boost.

Ms Alexander said:

“Funding to fix potholes and repair our roads is doubling under this Labour government. Something I fought for as Transport Secretary.

“Swindon is rightly set to benefit but we need your help to tell us where to prioritise this extra resource.”

Swindon’s roads were recently rated as ‘amber’ in a national assessment, reflecting long-term underinvestment and recent weather damage.

Ms Alexander said:

“By doubling the money available to councils by the end of this Parliament (compared to the start), we’re giving Swindon Borough Council the resources it needs to not only tackle new potholes, but also to eat into that huge backlog that was allowed to build up over the last 14 years.”
