TfL to offer wide range of apprenticeship roles from September

TfL is launching a new round of apprenticeship opportunities as part of this week’s (10-16 February) National Apprenticeship Week 2025. The roles cover various areas, including engineering, technology, data, and river services.

TfL’s apprenticeship programme supports people of all ages to gain new skills while working. From September, 175 places will be available across 40 different apprenticeships, including track and asset maintenance, technology and data, sustainability, and roles supporting major projects. The apprenticeships range from Level 2, equivalent to five GCSEs, to Level 6, which is equal to a degree, says Harrow Online.

Successful applicants will gain an industry-recognised qualification and work experience. TfL has also opened four schemes to 16-year-olds, including Dial a Ride, IT Solutions, Transport Planning, and Project Controls.

TfL aims to improve diversity across the transport industry, increasing the number of women and ethnic minority apprentices. The percentage of women joining TfL apprenticeships has risen from 20 per cent in 2018 to 28 per cent in 2024, while those declaring a disability have increased from 4 per cent to 8 per cent.

TfL is hosting an event on 28 February 2025 where interested people can learn more about the apprenticeship options, with the opportunity to talk to current apprentices about the different roles TfL offer.
