Weather postpones M3 weekend closures

A planned weekend closure of the M3 has been postponed due to a Met Office forecast of high winds. National Highways have postponed the £900,000 work, essential repairs to the east and west bridges at Junction 3 Lightwater Interchange, for one week.  The A322 northbound closure will now take place from 9pm on Friday, 28 February until 6am on Monday, 3 March.

National Highways Project Manager, Emma Weston, said: “We always try to inform motorists in advance of any road closures but sometimes the weather can have an impact on scheduled work and we have to re-schedule our plans.”

A second-weekend closure at the A322 southbound has subsequently been pushed back, with the latest Met Office forecast for the area shows heavy rain and strong wind on Sunday, February 22.

Diversions for the full weekend closures are as follows:

East bridge (A322 southbound) closures:

  • A322 northbound, left onto A30 (London Road)
  • left onto B3015 (The Maultway)
  • left onto B311 (Red Road), rejoining the A322 at Gordon Boys Roundabout.

To join the M3 at Frimley interchange (junction 4) during East bridge closures:

  • A322 Northbound
  • left onto A30 (London Road)
  • left onto A331 then joining at Frimley interchange (junction 4).

For West bridge (A322 northbound) closures:

  • A322 southbound, right onto B311 (Red Road)
  • right onto B3015 (The Maultway)
  • right onto A30 (London Road)
  • right onto Grove End, and then rejoining the A322.

To join the M3 at Frimley interchange (junction 4) during West bridge closures:

  • A322 southbound,
  • right onto B311 (Red Road)
  • right onto B3015 (The Maultway)
  • left onto A30 (London Road)
  • left onto A331 then joining at Frimley interchange (junction 4).
