The City of York is to try out a transport modelling solution which mixes traditional planning software with live traffic information to work out where traffic jams will form before they do so.
The system from PTV can then be used to mitigate problems before they happen, which should lead to less congestion and improved air quality. It’s the first city-wide trial of the solution which has previously been used to manage traffic across a bridge in London.
PTV Group’s UK Director Devrim Kara called this an “exciting and innovative project” while James Gilchrist, York’s Assistant Director for Transport, Highways and Environment, said the insight will “facilitate smarter transport decision making, optimised traffic signal plans and better travel advice for road users across the historic city.”
