Young people across the East taught about the value of local buses

Bus operators have emphasized the value that buses offer on travel for all ages across our region, as Stagecoach East continued its program of attending schools to talk to young people about the importance of local buses.

Stagecoach East, along with fellow operators Whippet and Stephensons have this week attended two Open Evenings at Long Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge. This comes after the operators have attended similar school events across the East in recent months.

Under the slogan “Bussed It, Bossed It”, Stagecoach East offers Youth Tickets at a discount of 30% compared with the adult price. Youth tickets are available for under-19s and students with ID. This makes bus travel a great value option, with 4-week DayRiders offering unlimited travel in a Town Zone for as little as £1.93 per day, and a Student Pass offering unlimited travel for as little as £1.65.

The operators were also able to talk about Cambridgeshire’s new Tiger Passes, which offer under-25s the chance to travel for just £1 for a single journey.

Buses also offer an important boost to the local environment, economy and society. Figures published, last month, for Better Transport Week, highlighted that:

  • Bus commuters add £64bn to the economy each year.
  • One double-decker bus can take up to 75 cars off our roads.
  • Buses are integral to our local communities, connecting millions of people, tackling loneliness, cutting traffic and reducing air pollution.
  • Buses are the UK’s most used form of public transport.

David Boden, Business Development Director of Stagecoach East, said: “Our team really enjoy getting out into our local community and attending events like the excellent Open Evening at Long Road Sixth Form College this week. It is exciting to be sharing our passion for bus travel with the next generation of bus passengers – and maybe bus Drivers, Vehicle Technicians and support teams.

“Buses play a hugely important role in bringing our communities together. So, as Summer roles on, with so many exciting things to see and do, now is the best time to get on board, to get to school or work, or to get out for a wonderful day out.”
