Highway maintenance specialists McCann has announced that it has been named as one of the companies on the National Highways Supplier Delivery Framework.
The company has secured works across two lots and six asset delivery areas over the next six years.
National Highways recently launched the SDF in order to continue with its delivery of the already established England-wide Asset Delivery Model. Asset Delivery sees the country split into distinct areas, with works awarded to specialist contractors. Projects are awarded in Lots, with contractors placed on different tiers within those Lots. 161 places were available across the SDF, which is divided into four bands covering a total of 16 Lots.
McCann has been named as a Tier 1 contractor for renewals across Lot 7 – Lighting – in Areas 10, 12, 7, 9 and 13, as well as Lot 9 – Technology – in Areas 10, 12, 9 and 3. The total value of the works across the six-year period is £59m.
As part of our strategic growth plan, which was set out at the start of 2021 targeting £60m – £150m growth by 2024, partnering directly with National Highways as a Tier 1 contractor and securing works across the SDF were seen as crucial to the company’s ambitions.
Maintaining and strengthening these relationships with National Highways and realising the strategy was the responsibility of our Strategic Highways Director, Clive Leadbetter – who joined the firm at the start of this year. He is delighted with the news of the SDF awards and sees this as a significant step forward as part of McCann’s expansion plans over the coming three years.
“National Highways has always been a key client for McCann and our strategy for the short and long-term is very much focused around key clients.
“We want to build deeper relationships and work more closely with these clients across not just lighting, but the full suite of civil, electrical and technological engineering services. We’re a complete service provider that promises a quality product, so by winning a broader range of projects, we can further prove our credentials and showcase the expertise that exists within our highly skilled, directly employed team.”
Mr Leadbetter continued: “SDF exists to provide economic prosperity, growth and opportunities for businesses and individuals across England, and we’re proud to be a part of the continued renewal works to ensure that we have a strategic road network which can continue to facilitate a thriving economy.”
For the company’s Managing Director John McCann, the success around SDF highlights the significant shift the business is looking to make in order to be named as principal contractor on a regular basis and he’s confident that McCann has the right foundations in place to go to the next level.
“We’ve known for a long time that we are in a great position and that making this next big jump for the business is more than achievable,” he said.
“We employ in excess of 300 people across the UK – working across the full suite of infrastructure solutions including civil engineering, lighting, multi utilities and highways – and our commitment to quality, safety and on-time delivery is second to none.
“The business has been delivering results for over 50 years, and we feel that now is the time to go to the next level. Securing high profile works such as those on the Scheme Delivery Framework will enable us to grow and realise our ambition of becoming the contractor of choice for key clients on a more regular basis.”
