Leading engineering firm Spencer Group recently hosted the Lighthouse Construction Charity team at its Carrington site, presenting them with a cheque for £18,545 to celebrate the close of a successful year-long partnership.
Each year, employees at Spencer Group have the opportunity to nominate and vote for the organisation they would like the company to support as its official charity partner. In 2025, the company chose The Lighthouse Construction charity, a nationwide organisation that supports the emotional, physical and financial wellbeing of construction workers and their families.
As a leading engineering firm with active sites across the UK, Spencer Group takes great pride in supporting a charity like Lighthouse. In an industry where open conversations surrounding mental health and financial pressures can often be difficult, this support plays an important role in helping workers access the help they need.
On the 11 of March, the Lighthouse Charity #MakeItVisible team visited the company’s site in Carrington, Manchester. The team hosted insightful talks and facilitated vital conversations, all focused on supporting the emotional, physical and financial wellbeing of Spencer Group’s on-site operatives.
The visit also marked a significant milestone for both teams, as Spencer Group brought their year of supporting the Lighthouse Charity to a close. After twelve months of hard work from all employees, supported by the company’s dedicated charity champions, the team was proud to present Lighthouse with a cheque for an incredible £18,045.17, making it a record-breaking year of fundraising for the company.
One of the company’s first major fundraising events of the year was the Hull 10K, where five Spencer Group employees took on the challenge in support of Lighthouse, raising £250 between them.
In September 2025, the company undertook its largest fundraising event of the year by taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks. A team of twenty Spencer Group employees tied up their boots and hiked 24 miles over 11 hours, all in support of Lighthouse. Their efforts paid off, raising a total of £2,545, surpassing their £2,000 target.
Alongside these efforts, the company also arranged an Easter raffle and bake sale which raised over £500, a bake sale in celebration of pride month, a ‘Tennis Keepie Uppie’ challenge, a fantasy football league, dress-down Friday’s and various other themed events throughout the year.
Spencer Group’s fundraising efforts were further strengthened in December when the Tyseley Depot team, winners of the company’s ‘Project of the Year’ award, generously donated their £5,000 winning bonus to Lighthouse, helping to support the charity’s vital work nationwide.
Although Spencer Group’s year as Lighthouse’s official charity partner has come to a close, the company is extending its commitment through a sponsorship role, continuing to support staff training programs and site visits nationwide so employees can benefit from the charity’s expertise year-round.
This ongoing support builds on the success of the year-long partnership, which was a testament to the dedication and generosity of Spencer Group employees and their charity champions whose time and effort ensures the company can continue backing vital organisations like Lighthouse.
Leahanne Shillito, Executive Admin Assistant and Charity Champion at Spencer Group, said:
“Supporting the Lighthouse Construction Charity over the past year has been incredibly rewarding for everyone at Spencer Group. In an industry where conversations around mental health and wellbeing can be challenging, we are so proud to have partnered with a charity delivering such vital support.”
“The dedication and enthusiasm from our team, who took part in and supported all of our fundraising events, reflects the values at the heart of Spencer Group.”
“We would also like to thank all of our external supporters who generously donated prizes for our Christmas and Easter raffles; these contributions have made a real difference and are greatly appreciated.”
