Measures aimed to make bus travel more attractive have been approved by Hull City Council. The Cabinet has this week signed off on how the authority will spend £7.8m of Government funding to make bus travel in the city more convenient and reliable, says the Hull Daily Mail.
It also approved how it will allocate Hull’s Local Authority Bus Grant (LABG) for 2026/27. The Government funding has been allocated to the council from the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority.
The council will use the funding to fund measures that, it is hoped, will improve public transport facilities and highway infrastructure as well as increasing service frequency on key routes and the delivery of targeted initiatives, with the aim of growing passenger numbers and helping to make the city greener and better connected. The work will be done alongside local bus operators, Stagecoach East Midlands and East Yorkshire Buses, through the Hull Bus Alliance.
Stuart Fillingham, commercial director at East Yorkshire Buses, said:
“We’re proud to continue working closely with Hull City Council through the Hull Bus Alliance to deliver meaningful improvements for passengers. This funding will help us build on the progress already made, making bus travel in Hull more reliable, convenient and attractive for the people who rely on it every day.”
