The Government will announce more than £1m in funding in an effort to make Surrey’s roads safer. Local Transport Minister Lilian Greenwood is set to confirm that the road connecting the A319 in Chobham to the A320 in Guildford will receive £1.3 million in government money
The funding is aimed at making the route safer, with estimates suggesting that these proposals could reduce injuries by over a third over the next 20 years.
Ms Greenwood said:
“Everyone should feel safe on our roads. Our Road Safety Strategy is improving our roads in their entirety, from driving licences all the way to infrastructure. But we’re not just talking about it, this funding will make a real difference to people’s lives in Surrey, making journeys safer and bringing over £6 million in benefits to the community.”
The routes have been described as some of England’s most high-risk A-roads and have been the site of a number of incidents.
This funding is part of the Safer Roads Fund, which will prevent an estimated 2,750 deaths and serious injuries over 20 years on some of England’s most high-risk A-roads.
