Transport consultancy AtkinsRéalis has welcomed Transport for the South East opening consultation on its new Transport Strategy.
This consultation sets out the Sub-national Transport Body’s vision for the region and highlights its plans to meet the challenges for transport posed by a changing economic, social and environmental landscape over the coming decades.
To support the development of the refreshed strategy, AtkinsRéalis was appointed to undertake research, engagement and co-creation with groups who have traditionally been excluded from transport services and infrastructure.
Jo Bacon, AtkinsRéalis Social and Behavioural Science Technical Director, said: “Our research has revealed critical barriers facing different communities in the South East’s transport network, such as affordability challenges for disabled people and bus availability issues for young people. By capturing these nuanced experiences across diverse and disadvantaged groups, we have provided Transport for the South East with actionable insights on a range of mobility challenges. This will support the transport strategy’s aims to address real-world barriers and create a more inclusive transport network in a region which is a major international gateway and powerful driver of the UK economy.”
