Council postpones roadworks after scheduling “chaos”

South Gloucestershire Council (SGC) has announced that it has delayed a set of roadworks amid a ‘summer of chaos’ for motorists. The council was heavily criticised for scheduling major roadworks in several locations simultaneously during the school holidays, with the worst of the disruption seemingly caused by the closure of the A38 Gloucester Road flyover until the end of August.

In light of those problems, says Bristol Live, the SGC has asked the National Grid to pause work in Hatchet Road, Stoke Gifford, until after the flyover reopens. Hatchet Road runs parallel to the closed flyover, and therefore offers an alternative route for those looking to avoid the closed section of road, which is near to some of Bristol’s biggest employers including Airbus and Rolls Royce.

“We asked National Grid to postpone their work in Hatchet Road, Stoke Gifford until after the A38 over the Flyover reopens,” SGC said.

“The National Grid works, meaning restrictions along Winterbourne Road roundabout and phased lights along Hatchet Road, will now resume at the beginning of September. The A38 works over the Flyover, to replace the expansion joints, are due to be completed at the end of this month.” Hatchet Road is a busy route that leads to Bristol Parkway at one end.
