New figures show that the number of injuries from crashes on four roads in Coventry with average speed cameras have fallen 88% since the systems’ introduction.
CoventryLive reports that speeds along the enforced roads have also dropped more than 40%.
Two of the camera schemes from Jenoptik were added in January 2019, the others in 2020.
Cllr Gavin Lloyd, deputy cabinet member for city services, told the site, “Speeding is a massive issue and there isn’t a ward that isn’t affected by this. The KSI’s [the number of people killed or seriously injured] speak for themselves from previous years. There’s talk in social media and newspapers that the reason we do this is as a money making scheme. It’s not. It’s 100 per cent down to the safety of the citizens of Coventry.”
