Crash victim charity RoadPeace closes down

The charity RoadPeace has suddenly closed down, making staff redundant.

Although there has been no official announcement on the organisation’s website, it is understood staff were told last week they were losing their jobs with immediate effect. A former CEO of the charity has confirmed to Highways News the reports are true.

RoadPeace has been supporting people bereaved or injured by road crashes since 1992. Brigitte Chaudhry MBE set it up following the death of her son. She had been shocked at the ‘shabby’ treatment of his innocent death when she discovered that the response to a road death was very different from the response to any other form of violent death from any other cause. Chaudhry decided to challenge what was described as the casual attitude to road casualties and offer support to the victims. She set RoadPeace up to campaign for justice, rights and recognition for road crash victims, and road danger reduction.

However, a post shared on LinkedIn stated: “It is with a very heavy heart I am writing to let you know that, effective from 9th January 2026, RoadPeace will have to sadly stop its crucial work for road crash victims and close permanently”.

Staff have taken to LinkedIn to comment, with one saying: “It’s hard to overstate how disappointed and angry I am about the sudden closure of RoadPeace.

“The dedicated and passionate staff were completely blindsided by this, without consultation, while working hard to grow the charity and give more road victims a voice. It’s especially cruel considering that many of them are carrying their own pre-existing trauma from sudden and catastrophic loss.”

Another said: “Devastated this has happened. For me and my colleagues, for all those who use our services and for all those victims in the future that we can’t support.”

The organisation only released its response to the Government’s Road Safety Strategy on 7 January.
