Drivers are being urged to plan their journeys and allow extra time to travel as capacity is set to be reduced on a section of the M4 in Berkshire and Wiltshire until early March.
National Highways is carrying out essential resurfacing of the eastbound carriageway between junctions 14 and 15, near Membury services.
To allow the work to safely take place, parts of the motorway will have to be closed overnight later this month.
Traffic will also be restricted to one lane, with the hard shoulder also closed, for five nights from today, Monday, January 13.
Membury services will remain open for the first three nights, but entry to the services will be closed for two nights from Thursday, January 16.
Victoria Bathe, National Highways Project Manager, said: “We apologise for any temporary disruption this may cause but this vital resurfacing work will provide a smoother, quieter road for both drivers and communities nearby for many years to come.
“We plan our work carefully to minimise disruption and we are carrying out the majority of this maintenance at night when traffic is at its lightest.
A full eastbound carriageway closure will also be in place between J15 – J14 beginning on Monday 27 January and for a further 15 nights over the following five weeks.
The full list of closure dates and diversions – one specifically for HGVs and one for other vehicles – can be found on the South East Maintenance Schemes section of the National Highways website.
