Changes could be made at a ‘dangerous’ Manchester junction after drivers raised major safety concerns. Nearly 90 people have signed a petition calling on Manchester City Council to fix the junction at Princess Parkway and Wythenshawe Road.

There have been a number of incidents recorded on the road in 2024 and 2025 according to Greater Manchester Police accident data, including one ‘serious’ collision, says the Manchester Evening News.

The petition from motorists stated:

‘We the undersigned petition the council to improve safety at the Princess Parkway and Wythenshawe Road junction by reviewing the road structure, traffic signals and merge system following repeated serious accidents.

‘The main issue appears to be conflict between drivers coming off the give way slip road and vehicles moving through from the adjacent traffic light controlled junction.’

According to those behind the petition, cars ‘often attempt to merge at the same time as traffic is accelerating from the lights’ at the junction, causing ‘multiple significant car crashes and dangerous situations at the merge point’.

The petition continued:

‘The junction would benefit from a safety review, as the current layout appears hazardous, particularly during busy traffic periods.’

The junction serves traffic from the directions of both Northern Moor and Northenden, while Princess Parkway links to the M60 and M56, continuing north onto Princess Road towards central Manchester.

A council spokesperson said:

“The council is aware of the public’s concerns around this particular junction, and are in consultation with our colleagues at National Highways and TfGM on what future works could be carried out to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, and ease congestion.

“We take everyone’s safety incredibly seriously and are working to reduce serious injuries and death on our roads to none through our Vision Zero Action Plan.”
