Blindwells master-developer Hargreaves Land has confirmed details of a temporary road closure at the Bankton Junction of the A1 in East Lothian.
As part of the firm’s ongoing upgrading works, a full closure of the A1 mainline southbound at Bankton Junction will be in place for three overnights from 7.30pm to 6.30am on the nights of 24-26January 2026 to help facilitate surfacing works and works to the central reservation.
During the closure period, traffic will be required to follow diversion routes; leaving the A1 on to the A199, travelling through Prestonpans on the B1361 and A198, returning to the A1 at Bankton Junction.
The first phase of works to the southbound slip road commenced in September and involve extension and widening works to the slip road to help improve traffic flow.
According to Niall McLean, development director at Hargreaves Land, the project is progressing well and nearing completion. He said:
“Following commencement of the road improvement works at Bankton Junction in September we are very pleased with the progress that has been made. This investment will help to improve traffic flow in the local area and cater for additional road users as Blindwells continues to evolve in the years to come. Further works to the north roundabout at Bankton Junction, including widening of the roundabout and installation of traffic signals, have recently commenced and are expected to be completed by Easter.”
The Bankton Junction project is being undertaken by Luddon Construction on behalf of Hargreaves Land who are working in collaboration with Transport Scotland and East Lothian Council.
