Overnight works will take place this summer on the A120 in Essex between Horsley Cross roundabout and Parkeston ahead of plans to introduce a 50mph speed limit. National Highways have confirmed that the eight-mile stretch of road will now have a new reduced limit.
This comes after lobbying by Harwich councillor Ivan Henderson who previously described the section between Horsley Cross and Ramsay roundabout as “a dangerous blackspot”.
The speed reduction comes after there was four fatal crashes in as many months in 2022.A spokesman from National Highways said that they “will be reducing the speed limit on the A120 between Horsley Cross roundabout and Parkeston from 60mph to 50mph”.
• The scheme also features the installation of average speed safety cameras and associated signage.
• To minimise disruption to road users, the works will be carried out overnight.
• Details of the diversion route will be announced closer to the time.
The spokesman also said that the works programme has not been “completely finalised yet” but that National Highways are currently planning to start on May 19 for 14 weeks.
