Essex Police has caught more than 260 speeding drivers since a set of Jenoptik speed cameras were set up last year. In March and June 2025, 11 speed cameras were set up at two accident hotspots along the A120.
The first group of five were set up on the A120 between Marks Tey and Braintree, with the remaining six set up between Horsley Cross and Parkeston, says the Maldon & Burnham Standard.
As part of the A120: Road To Safety campaign, it was uncovered that a total of £5.1million was spent on the speed cameras.
A Freedom of information (FOI) request has now revealed 268 motorists have been caught speeding since they became active, although no statistics relating to changes in number of collisions have been noted. The FOI data from the force shows the offences took place between October 2025 until 8 February 2026.
In October there were 17 offences, 85 in November, 92 in December, 60 in January, and then 14 in early February.
Adam Pipe, head of roads policing at Essex Police, said:
“Speeding is unacceptable and puts other roads users, as well as themselves, at risk of serious injury or death. “It’s why our roads policing unit are on patrol on our roads network 24/7.
“Their importance is clear – earlier this month our speed enforcement team detected more than 515 driving offence on roads in the north of the county in just seven days.
“Speeding is one of the major contributing factors to fatal collisions. Even a small increase in speed can lead to longer stopping distances and if you are involved in a crash, more serious injuries.
“Please remember that speed limits exist for everyone’s safety. Sticking to them isn’t just the law, it could save a life.”
