The European Commission has launched an open public consultation on a new initiative aimed to make it easier to measure the environmental performance of different transport options.

The CountEmissions EU will offer a framework for calculating transport and logistics-related door-to-door greenhouse gas emissions in a consistent way, regardless of transport mode, sector or country of operation.

As announced in the EU Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy, this initiative is designed to help incentivise transport operators to measure emissions and benchmark their services using a common methodology, enabling shippers, passengers, e-commerce customers and public authorities to make informed choices on the most sustainable travel, delivery or service options.

The consultation is open until 17 October, and all stakeholders, from businesses to passengers and consumers, are invited to contribute.
