GRAHAM, the national construction and development company, has joined forces with National Highways to celebrate the opening of a brand-new outdoor classroom and accessible footpath for Wells Park Primary School, Chigwell, Essex.
The development comes from a joint £20,000 contribution from GRAHAM and National Highways and support from supply chain (Heidelberg and M&O Civil Engineering Ltd) on the M25 junction 28 improvements scheme.
Wells Park Primary School plays a vital role in the community, providing a nurturing environment for children aged 5 to 11 with complex social, emotional, and mental health needs. The new outdoor classroom is specifically designed to support these students, offering a dedicated space for them to learn, play, and socialize in a safe and stimulating environment.
This innovative space, complete with accessible paths and ramps, will foster a more inclusive learning experience. The natural setting of the outdoor classroom will encourage students to connect with nature and each other, promoting teamwork, communication, and social development.
A plan to revitalise the school’s outdoor space, was spearheaded by Headteacher, Matthew Surma 18 months ago, which included the creation of a new outdoor classroom within the school farm.
Thanking the team’s efforts, Matthew Surnma said: “I just wanted to extend our heartfelt gratitude once again to you for your generosity in creating the classroom. I am meeting with another local charity to look at ways we can maximise its benefit for all members of our community.”
Dan Cawthra, Head of Stakeholder & Community Engagement said: “Investing in the future of our communities is a core part of GRAHAM’s philosophy. Partnering with National Highways to create this new outdoor classroom allows us to directly support the well-being and development of the students and we are excited to see the positive impact this space will have for years to come.
