The Isle of Wight Council’s Alliance Group has voted to examine the cost and effectiveness of average speed cameras for the Island.
Isle of Wight Radio says that this follows a change of control in the council after the election in May. Previously the council, when it was Conservative-led, had set aside £300,000 to buy two sets of cameras on the island in order to sort out what it called ‘horrendous’ speeding issues.
At a full council meeting, councillors decided to amend the motion and develop a business case to investigate the costs and effectiveness of the cameras.
