NY Highways Ltd has appointed Jamie Crumlish, formerly of Mac Asphalt Ltd, to the position of Managing Director.
Jamie will be taking over from Ross Bullerwell, who has been instrumental in establishing the business and its name in the industry.
Jamie said: “The NY Highways business model is an exciting opportunity to deliver effective and efficient highway services to the communities of North Yorkshire, in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council. I have been very impressed with all staff members across both organisations and I look forward to working with the team and the wider commercial sector.”
Having worked in the highways sector for over 23 years, Jamie has a wealth of experience in the successful delivery of local authority contracts. In his previous position as Managing Director of Mac Asphalt Ltd, Jamie successfully led the family business to year-on-year growth.
Over the last three years, he led the integration of two businesses to create the largest local authority contracting business in Scotland, while continuing to competitively secure and deliver local authority contracts.
Jamie will take over the reins of NY Highways, which operates as a teckal business and is owned by North Yorkshire County Council, on November 7 for a handover period with Ross, who will leave the company at the end of November to set up his own business.
Martin Duffy, Chair of NYHighways, said:
“Since the mobilisation of NY Highways in June 2021 under the direction of Ross Bullerwell, the business has achieved a number of milestones, including an operations restructure and the implementation of numerous innovations. Throughout his time he has been resilient, transparent, challenging and pragmatic and above all else, a pleasure to work alongside. As the Chairman of NY Highways, I would like to wish Ross every success as he moves on to a different sort of challenge.
“Whilst we are sad to lose Ross, we have been quick to react and have found a superb new MD who will formally start his role on November 7. Jamie Crumlish brings with him a wealth of knowledge from the contracting business that the Board will find invaluable as we collectively strive to achieve even more through NY Highways. I’m delighted to welcome Jamie to the fold.”
NY Highways was formed in June 2021 by North Yorkshire County Council to deliver highways maintenance services following the end of the County Council’s contract with a private contractor. NY Highways works closely with the County Council but operates separately as a private business.
