Kent County Council’s (KCC) highways teams have made the most of the summer weather to tackle medium and large-scale road defects across the county, The favourable working conditions allow repairs to be carried out more efficiently.
The scale of the challenge remains significant. In response, highways teams have been surveying the network, identifying key areas for repair, and carefully planning works across the county.
By coordinating activity and spreading repairs over several months, KCC aim to minimise disruption for residents, businesses and road users while delivering lasting improvements.
Since 1 April, the highways teams have repaired 11,243 potholes and responded to over 5,000 highways enquiries, demonstrating the continued effort being made to maintain and improve Kent’s road network.
Alongside pothole repairs, KCC’s road surfacing programme is progressing at pace.
By the end of June, KCC had delivered around 320,000 square metres of surface improvements, including around 90,000 square metres of road renewal and around 230,000 square metres of road surface preservation.
Peter Osborne, KCC Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said:
“We know residents want to see road improvements, and our teams are working hard across Kent to deliver them. By repairing potholes, resurfacing roads and carrying out preventative maintenance, we’re helping to create a safer, smoother and more reliable network for everyone.”
