Lincolnshire: Plans to bring Spalding to Pinchbeck Active Travel improvements to life still underway

The Spalding to Pinchbeck Active Travel improvements project is pressing ahead, with construction due to start next spring.

Below is an update on the Spalding to Pinchbeck Active Travel improvement scheme:

A series of drainage surveys are currently scheduled to be carried out overnight this autumn on Pinchbeck Road. Specific dates and times will be shared closer to the time.

Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways, said: “This type of survey will help our engineering team identify any underground drainage pipes or apparatus that might be buried along the route of where the new footway/cycleway will be built.

“By surveying the area ahead of construction, we can factor any unknown drainage assets into our designs ahead of officially breaking ground, including making plans to replace any gullies or connections that might be deteriorating.

“Doing this will help ensure the project goes as smoothly as possible once we start next spring.”

Phases 1 and 2 of the Spalding to Pinchbeck Active Travel Improvements project will start in Spring 2026 for up to eight months.

The current status of the scheme is:

  • The statutory traffic regulation order consultation ended in early September, with the project team currently working through the responses received.
  • A solution to an unexpected design clash with a gas main alongside Pinchbeck Road is currently being worked on by the project team.
  • Plans for a major road reconstruction project on Pinchbeck Road are being finalised so the work can be carried out in conjunction with the active travel improvement scheme.

Cllr Ingrid Sheard, county councillor for Spalding Elloe, said: “Although there’s nothing happening on-site just yet, our highways team is incredibly busy working behind the scenes to ensure all the right boxes are ticked before breaking ground.

“By tying a fairly large road improvement project in with this, the council will see long-term cost savings and local people will see ever more positive change sooner without the long-term disruption.”
