M8 lane closures announced to allow streetlighting upgrade

Essential works to upgrade streetlighting on the slip road from the M9 southbound onto the M8 eastbound at Junction 2 near Ratho, Edinburgh, will begin on the night of Monday 15 September and continue until the night of Friday 26 September.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the works.

On the nights of 15 to 20 September between 20:00 and 06:00, the M8 Junction 2 eastbound on-slip will be closed, with a diversion route in place via the M8 westbound to turn at Junction 3 Livingston and return on the M8 eastbound. This diversion will add an estimated 10.6 miles and 11 minutes to affected journeys.

Lane closures will then be in place on the nights of 22 to 26 September, however the slip road will remain open to traffic.

Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s Southeast Network Manager, said: “These works will improve lighting and safety for motorists traveling on this section of the motorway network.

“Overnight slip road and lane closures are required for the safety of road users and our workforce, however we will carry out the works at night to minimise disruption.
