A £500,000 highways scheme to improve the A5121 Claymills interchange / Derby Road in Burton, Staffordshire will start today (Monday 4 September).
Staffordshire County Council’s highways teams will be carrying out drainage, kerbing and ironworks along with major resurfacing and re-marking of the road. Crews will also be clearing footpaths, cutting back hedges and repairing damaged barriers as part of the work.
The scheme is expected to take around four weeks to complete with work starting between Claymills road and Mill Stream Lane on the A5121. To make sure the work can be carried out safely and efficiently and to minimise disruption the majority of the work will be carried out at night from 9pm to 5am. Temporary road closures will be in place throughout the works including the A38 North and South Slip roads. A signed diversion route will be in place throughout the works. Access to properties will be maintained where possible and crews at either side of the work area will be able to advise people.
The improvement scheme is part of a wider £30 million investment the county council is making into its roads over the next two years. The investment aims to improve major gateways into Staffordshire and is on top of an extra £5 million to fix highways defects across the county.

“Good roads are important for residents, motorists and of course the economy and it is important to invest in keeping them safe and well maintained. This is why we recently announced an extra investment of £5 million in pothole repairs, on top of an extra £30 million investment in larger repairs and resurfacing of roads and junctions over the next two years.
