Major resurfacing works are taking place on a key Tamworth road from next week, as part of a £1.6 million road repair scheme. 

The Staffordshire County Council highways improvement project will see crews completely resurface the C0370 Coton Lane, from the junction of the A513 Comberford Road and the southern junction of Fontenaye Road.  

The first phase of this project will begin on Monday 16 September. This will include replacing kerbs and ironwork, tactile crossing upgrades, minor footway patching, drainage repairs and cleaning and jetting the highway gullies and manholes.   

This initial work will be carried out under temporary traffic signals between 7.30am and 4.30pm. Temporary traffic signals may need to remain in place overnight for everyone’s safety.  

These civil works are expected to be completed by Friday 18 October. 

Mark Deaville, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for strategic highways, said: “We are investing £1.6 million into improving this well-used road in Tamworth because we know how important it is to maintain our road network and keep road users safe. 

“These improvements will improve the longevity of Coton Lane and help us to avoid bigger and more costly repairs in the future.  

“As with any major road schemes, there will inevitably be disruption, but I want to assure residents that our crews will do everything they can to keep delays to a minimum.”

Information about the second stage of this project will be made available in the coming weeks. 

The works are all part of a wider £50 million investment into the county’s roads over three years.
