New first-of-a-kind cameras that detect when a driver is handling a mobile phone have caught thousands of people in and around Sydney, Australia.
The New South Wales Government switched on the cameras in March, and Channel 9 TV reports that in that first month 12,991 fines worth AU$7,429,451 (£3.9 million) were issued.
The cameras use artificial intelligence to review images and detect drivers suspected of using a mobile. These are then verified by a human.
