National Highways has appointed Duncan Smith to the role of Executive Director for Operations full time.

He joined the company in 2017 first as Regional Director and then more recently as Transformation Director. Previously, he held several senior positions in infrastructure companies.

Mr Smith has been covering the role on an interim basis since February 2021, while Nick Harris was covering the role of Chief Executive until his appointment was made permanent in August. Following a full and thorough selection process, the appointment was confirmed to National Highways staff last week.

“I’m delighted to announce that I’ve offered Duncan Smith the permanent position of Executive Director for Operations,” commented Mr Harris. “Duncan has an impressive record in leadership, identifying strategic opportunities, significantly increasing business performance and delivering effective customer solutions. He’s just the person we need to help us achieve our RIS2 goals and to lead our Operations directorate forward.”
